Steve Bauer Classic presented by St. Davids Hydroponics to host the 2019 Ontario Road Provincial Championships

Cycle Sport Management (CSM) and Ontario Cycling Association (OCA) are thrilled to announce that the Steve Bauer Classic presented by St. Davids Hydroponics will be the location of the 2019 Ontario Road Provincial Championships on Saturday, May 18th, 2019.

Over the years the Niagara region and the St. Catharines Cycling Club have hosted the Championships on many occasions.  “The Ontario Provincial Championships is the pinnacle of the 2019 Ontario road racing calendar” says the St. Catharines Cycling Club’s (SCCC) president Wally Tykoliz who welcomes its competitors and all cycling enthusiasts to the Ontario’s premiere road race, the Steve Bauer Classic.  The SCCC and CSM are appreciative of the support and trust the OCA has placed in the organisation.

For the Championships, the Classic circuit has been increased by two kilometres to make a 14.5km lap.  Still in its 35th year, the Effingham Hill, also known as Saylor’s Hill, will again prove to be a challenge to racers competing for the coveted Provincial Champion jersey.  With a 14.8% maximum grade, the hill never disappoints and will make for a tough racing terrain for those who wish to attack and challenge their adversaries.  Juniors, under 23 years old, elite, masters, men and women athletes will compete in the Ontario Championships.  The Steve Bauer Classic p/b St. Davids Hydroponics is expecting over 300 competitors from all over Ontario.

We look forward to welcoming everyone in the Town of Pelham, region of Niagara!

The Steve Bauer Classic, formerly the Niagara Classic originally held by the St. Catharines Cycling Club  since the 80’s  is a staple in Ontario road cycling racing and has become a must in riders’ racing calendars. There have been several well known road racers who have won the classic over the years: Steve Bauer, Gervais Rioux, Erik Wohlberg, Ryan Roth, Ed Veal, Bruce Bird, Karen Strong, Leah Kirchmann, Sue Palmer, Candice Moote, Suzie Brown, to name several.   In 2016, the Niagara Classic was renamed to the Steve Bauer Classic by request from the SCCC to honour the accomplishments of Steve Bauer, a native of St. Catharines and life member of the club.  St. Davids Hydroponics has been a leading sponsor and supporter of the Classic since that transition.  The St. Catharines Cycling club continues to be a valuable contributor to the races’ success.  www.stevebauerclassic.com
